‘Peace Corps ’ In Reverse For U.S.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 3. President Johnson has proposed the creation of a peace corps in reverse.
It would comprise a body of 5000 foreign volunteers who would come to the United States to teach their own language and culture at American schools and universities.
change volunteers would learn while they served in the United States and would be helped to get training to prepare them for further service when they returned home, the President said.
The proposal was part of the 524-million dollar plan submitted to Congress to help international education and to fight disease abroad. In a special Message to Congress proposing passage of the International Education and Health Acts of 1966. the President said that he had an initial goal of 5000 “Volunteers to America,” as the exchange peace corps would be known.
