RUSSIAN TOUR
Loss Causes Concern (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The New Zealand Amateur Athletics Association may have to take the financial loss from the recent national tour by the Russian team “on the chin,” the association’s chairman, Mr H. I. Austad, told a council meeting. The five-man Russian track and field team competed in eight centres and only three meetings—Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin—were not financial losses. “We have got to show enterprise and bring these international teams to New Zealand even if losses are sustained,” Mr Austad said.
Mr J. Hutchinson suggested that international tours are ceasing to become a novelty to the public.
