Timaru Fine Wool Prices Improve

TIMARU, February 2.

While crossbred wools were inclined in sellers favour compared with Invercargill’s values, fine wools were about 2| per cent dearer than Christchurch rates at the fourth main sale of the season in Timaru today.

Buyers from the Continent dominated the market, with some support from Bradford and local mills on Merino and halfbreds. It was the first February auction in the city and the sale attracted a full offering of 20,200 bales of greasy wool.

The official report says: “The selection was again a varied one, the wools coming from all parts of South and Mid Canterbury. The bulk of the offering consisted of fine and medium crossbred ewe wools with a limited selection of Merino and halfbred. “The quality was not up to the previous sale, there being some lines showing discolouration and tenderness of staple with a good proportion of catted wools. Most of the offering was better yielding than is usually the ease at this time of the season,” says the report. “Compared with Invercargill, crossbred wools were inclined in sellers’ favour and compared with Christchurch fine wools were about 21 per cent dearer. The buying benches were full and bidding was spirited throughout the sale. Range of Prices The range of prices was:—
