CLOTHES BURNT
Not Badly Hurt
(N.Z. Press Association)
NELSON, February 2.
A man was stripped of his clothes in seconds when a container of sulphuric acid broke as he lifted it on to his shoulder at McGlashen quay, Nelson. He is Ted Horton, a driver for City Carriers, Ltd., who suffered superfiicial burns, mainly to his arms and back. Without warning, the container broke inside a wooden case as Mr Horton put it on his shoulder. The acid ran down him, disintegrating his clothes immediately. The wharf shed storeman, Mr F. J. Price, tore his clothes off and rushed Mr Horton to a washroom where he doused him with soap and water. Mr Horton, aged about 58, was taken to Nelson Hospital but later discharged.
