Age Benefit Restriction
Sir, —I wish to join “Wayleggo” in his protest. I took a light but useful job at £5 a week. My pension was cut by £1 a week, plus £1 Is a year interest on the money earned. How I was supposed to be able to bank the money to earn the interest I do not ,K
know. I know of at least six others who would not accept similar work and wages because of the restrictions. When will the Government wake up to the fact that many men could do useful work if they were allowed to earn at least £5 weekly. The extra tax the Government would get could be used to help old people who are not able to work.—Yours, etc., GUINEA A YEAR. January 20, 1966.
Sir,—“Wayleggo,” who is over 60, should have known that this restriction which is most unfair, has been on for years. It is one of the anomalies of the present pension system preventing elderly pensioners who want to earn a few extra pounds, and are quite able, from doing so. As this is election year, what has the leader of the Labour Party got to say about it?— Yours, etc., OLDTIMER. February 2, 1966.
