U.S. General Dies

General Courtney H. Hodges, aged 79, who failed to graduate from West Point Military School but rose to command the Ist United States Army in Europe during World War 11, died today. He succeeded General Omar Bradley as commander of the Ist Army and saw his troops liberate Paris, and become the first invaders of Germany from the West in 100 years.
