Good Woodville Trials By Cup Entrants

"The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Woodville s-tabies will field a strong but select team for Saturday's Wellington Cup. Three horses will represent the centre. Sail Away. Fleeting Mo-

ment and Baloo. AH three pleased their traners in semifinal gallops at Woodville yesterday.

Sail Away and Baloo worked together over 10 furlongs on the course proper. Fleeting Moment was carried through a fast mile on the plough by Fascinate.

Sherlocks ran a splendid trial for the Telegraph Handicap and Janeville obviously is at her peak for the Fitzherbert Handicap.

The plough was dry and fast when Fleeting Moment used it for his semi-final cup trial. He trailed behind Fascinate early, but ran to her at the completion of a solid mile, the last seven furlongs taking lmin 27 4-ssec and the final three 36 2-ssec.

Sail Away and Baloo began their work from the foot of the course proper straight, both carrying big weights. They were joined at the mile by Roman Consul, which gave them a start and trailed behind to the half-mile.

From there there was little between them, except that Sail Away had to be kept up to his work to maintain his position. Baloo was going comfortably to put his nose ahead and clock lmin for the mile, lmin 19sec for six and 39sec for the final three, but Roman Consul was even more impressive.

; Sherlocks, one of the fittest horses at the centre, strode effortlessly over five furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec, taking 50 3-ssec for his half and 37 4-ssec for the final three. He was allowed to run clear of Jan Eyre early in the trial, but the filly came home strongly to be with him at the line, an improvement on other recent work. Handicap Chance Janeville, working most impressively, held Golden Mist over five furlongs in lmin 2 2-ssec, the last half in 49 4-ssec and the final three in 35 2-ssec. The filly could have a chance in the Fitzherbert Handicap.
