South African Air Service Wanted
"The Press" Special Service
AUCKLAND, Jan. 18. South African travel and trade interests want a regular air service between South Africa and New Zealand. They are urging South African Airways to use its long-range jet aircraft for flights between Johannesburg and Auckland by way of Mauritius. The journey would take 14 hours, including a one-hour stop at Mauritius for refuelling. The Travel and Trade Organisation of Southern Africa in its monthly publication says there is little doubt that New Zealand would welcome a direct air service from South Africa ".nd might even make use of its reciprocal rights to run its own ser-
vice to South Africa in time. The organisation says New Zealanders travelling to London by South African Airways could do the journey in only 25 hours with stops in Mauritius and Johannesburg. This is 10 hours quicker than any of the present I routes between New Zealand [and Britain. i “The service to New Zealland is needed,” says the [Travel and Trade Organisation, “because that country has two and a half million industrious people with a high standard of living who buy and sell much that South ‘Africa can offer or needs yet iwho have virtually no direct contact with southern | Africa.”
