SEATO RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 1966-67 THE SOUTH-EAST ASIA TREATY ORGANISATION is again offering a number of research fellowships. The object is to encourage the study and research of such social, economic, political, cultural, scientific and educational problems as will give insight into the present needs and future development of South-east Asia and the South-west Pacific. Projects should have a practical follow-up value; they should be distinct from projects already undertaken by other bodies such as the Specialised Agencies of the United Nations: and they should be in accordance with the aims of SEATO. The fellowships are intended for established scholars who have had several years’ professional experience and have published original material, or whose special abilities qualify them to carry through a major piece of research. Research must be pursued primarily in the Manila Treaty area, which covers South-east Asia and the South-west Pacific. Fellowships are normally awarded for periods of from four to ten months. A monthly allowance of SUS4OO (£143) is paid together with economy class air fares. Applications aiming mainly at improving the qualifications of the applicant or at earning a degree are not eligible for the research fellowship programme. Applications in New Zealand will close on April 1, 1966. Application forms may be obtained by writing to the Secretary of External Affairs, Parliament Buildings, Wellington. 7748
