Nearly Triple Peel In First Game
fNcuy Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI. W. R. McNaught almost accomplished the coveted triple peel yesterday in the first game of the rubber in the men’s championships, at the New Zealand croquet championships being played at Wanganui.
Playing against D. Jackson. McNaught made a break to four back, peeling his partner’s ball through the first hoop when making two back. In the course of his second break, commencing at hoop two, McNaught peeled the three remaining hoops for i his partner’s ball, ran through i rover in a wired position from his opponents’ ball and : was forced to croquet his partner's ball first thus losing the rush to the peg. McNaught attempted to long peg out, just missing with the first ball to accomplish! the triple peel.
He then pegged the striker's i ball out, marking a 15 point break and winning the game in his next turn. Results:— Open Championship Second Round.—Mrs C. T. Wadsworth (Auckland) beat Mrs H. Wooliett |<Ohakune) beat Mrs T. A. ■ Searell (Christchurch). 26-4. I Championship Doubles First Life.—Final: G. Rowling I (Xelson) and Mrs B. A. Garden | (Lower Hutt) beat H. C. Ford [ (Wellington) and J. Prince (Lower Hutt), 26-25.
