Parun In Best Form (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright; SYDNEY. New Zealand won the second round of the Linton Cup matches against Australia yesterday, beating South Australia two matches to one. Brian Fairlie lost to 1. Bidmead. 9-7, 2-6, 2-6. Fairlie and J. Mitchell beat Bidmead and T. Ryan, 5-7. 6-3, 6-3, and O. Parun beat M. Kenny, 6-2, 64. Parun was the hero of the round with an excellent twoset victory over the hardserving M. Kenny. Parun led throughout the match. His serving and stop-volleying was excellent.
In the first round New Zealand was beaten by Victoria, 2-1.
In the singles B. Fairlie lost to P. Robertson, 2-6. 1-6. and O. Parun lost to D. Pryor, 1-6. 6-2, 4-6. In the doubles Fairlie and J. Mitchell beat Robertson and Pryor, 6-2, 9-7. In the Wilson Cup. New Zealand lost to Western Australia 3-0. B. Verco lost to L. Hunt, 4-6, 4-6: D. Kerr-Taylor lost to B. Wall, 1-6, 7-9; and Verco and Kerr-Taylor lost to C. Lancaster and L. Griffiths, 3-6, 64. At the end of the first day in the Linton Cup New Zealand, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland have all registered one win. leaving the competition wide open. The Wilson Cup New Zealand team had a bye in the second round yesterday afternoon.
