Bid To Have Mrs Kennedy Stand For Senate Fails

Governor Richard Hughes has prevented attempts by Trenton Democrats to promote Mrs Jacqueline Kennedy as a Senate candidate from New Jersey. The Governor called the move “deplorable ... a discourteous bandying of the name of this wonderful and distinguished lady.” Mrs Kennedy’s candidacy was suggested during the'
week-end by a Democratic committee, which said Mrs Kennedy could seek the seat now held by Senator Clifford Case, a Republican. Governor Hughes said he had telephoned Senator I Robert Kennedy to apologise ■ for the incident. He said the Senator told him Mrs Kennedy had “dedicated her life to her children and has absolutely no interest in entering, or becoming in any way involved in the political arena.” I
