MR S. PEMBERTON

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, January 18. Mr Septimus ffrench Pemberton died at his residence. Budds road. Winchester, on Monday. He was in his ninety-third year. Born at Sefton. North Canterbury, Mr Pemberton was one of a family of 13. At the age of 17, he joined his brothers clearing hushcovered land in the Rangiwahia district, 30 miles north of Feilding. The land was subdivided, and Mr Pemberton subsequently sold his section.

He moved to Clandeboye m 1910. He was a former chairman of the Clandeboye School Committee, and he served on the vestry of St. Johns Church, Winchester, for a number of years. In 1936, Mr Pemberton purchased a property at Budds road, which is farmed by his youngest son.

Mr Pemberton was more than 70 before he retired from active farming, and he maintained his interest in farming until his death. Mr Pemberton is survived by five daughters: Mesdames H. M. Homersham (Cambridge), T. Paton (Matamata), C. Forster (Cambridge). F. Scarr (Masterton), and G. D. P. Henderson (Clandeboye), and two sons, Messrs C. B Pemberton (Rangiwahia) and J. E. Pemberton (Winchester).

Mr H. Mitchell has been reappointed a judge of the Courts Martial Appeal Court.—(P.A.)
