VANDALISM AT CHURCH

Children May Be Responsible (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 18. Vandals have struck at New Plymouth’s Fitzroy Methodist Church. Eleven windows were smashed in the Sunday School portion of the church, piles of rocks were hurled through the windows and damaged the interior, while prayer and hymn books were scattered throughout the building. The intruders tore pages out of some of the hymn books. The minister, the Rev. K. C. Griffith, said today that there had never been damage on this scale at the church before.

The vandals broke door locks to gain entry. Mr Griffith said be thought children were responsible as there was no sign of beer bottles or cigarette butts around the church. New Plymouth police are investigating the damage, the latest in a spate of vandalism throughout Taranaki.
