FALKLAND ISLANDS

Discussion In Buenos Aires (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BUENOS AIRES. Jan. 16. The British Foreign Minister, Mr Michael Stewart, completed his South American tour in Argentina last Friday after grappling for two days with the thorny problem of the Falkland Islands. Argentina calls them the Malvinas and claims the islands are Argentine territory. They lie off Argentina’s South Atlantic coast. , The islands were occupied •■by force by the British in 1833 and Argentina has complained ever since. It was unlikely, Associated Press said, that Mr Stewart made progress in pacifying the Buenos Aires Government. Britain has refused to discuss the matter in the United Nations.
