DAVIS CUP TEAM
Emphasis On Youth (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) AUCKLAND. The emphasis in this year’s New Zealand Davis Cup team will be on youth, the chairman of the New Zealand Tennis Association, Mr W. Reid, said at the national championship finals at Stanley street yesterday. “We will be sending at least two and possibly three youngsters in the squad,” he said. The number will be decided within a fortnight. Players available for selection include Auckland’s L. Gerrard, the top-ranked junior, B. Fairlie, Wellington’s R. Hawkes and J. Souter, and Northland’s G. Eliot. Gerrard and I. Crookenden, now in the United States, made up last year’s two-man Davis Cup team.
