Further Win For Ashe

The American, Arthur Ashe, gained his ■ fourth singles state title on the current Australian tennis circuit when he won the men’s final of the Tasmanian championships at Hobart yesterday. The 22-year-old Negro from Richmond, Virginia, beat John Newcombe, the Australian Davis Cup international, by 6-4, 6-4, 12-10 to avenge his defeat by Newcombe in the New South Wales state final five weeks ago. Ashe had previously won the Queensland, South Australian and West Australian titles. In the final of the women’s singles, the Australian, Judy Tegart, beat Mrs Carole Graebner (U.S.A.) by 8-6, 3-6, 6-2.

Tom Okker (Holland) and Nancy Richey (U.S.A.) won the mixed doubles title with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Owen Davidson (Australia) and Monique Salfati (France).
