Typist Still Fastest (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. Using a 25-year-old typewriter she allows no-one else to touch Miss B. W. Turner, of Mount Eden, won the national speed typewriting championship for the fifth time. In the results of the championship announced today by the Chamber of Commerce Miss Turner had an average of 94.4 words a minute. The runner-up was L. A. Postgate, of Whangarei, with 91.5 words.
Miss Turner learned typing at the Auckland Business College about 20 years ago. For some years she was an office secretary who also taught typing at the Auckland Technical Institute. About eight years ago she took up teaching full time.
Hay Burnt.— About 10 bales of hay were destrojM in a small fire at the Christchurch Go-kart Club’s property in Carrs road yesterday. One machine from headquarters and one from Sockburn answered the call at 2.02 p.m. The fire did no other damage,
