Harbour Boom Raised

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. The remnants of the antisubmarine net strung across Auckland harbour during the Second World War were finally hauled from their muddy resting place this afternoon, A team of 12 Navy divers cut the pieces of cable and wire into three segments weighing about a ton apiece. An Auckland Harbour Board transport barge used its powerful steam driven winches to raise the boom. The pieces were stored on the barge overnight ready for a decision on where they will be dumped.
