U.S. SIXTH FLEET
Repairs Base In Malta (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) VALETTA. Jan. 17. The United States Sixth Fleet is to use Malta as a repairs base for a two-month trial period beginning today, the Maltese Information Department has announced. It will be the first time the United States has based any ships in Malta and the agreement between the American annd Maltese Governments is regarded in Malta as a tremendous boost for the island's economy. The 7826-ton United States repair ship Cadmus is to arrive in Malta’s grand harbour today, and 17 ships of frigate size are expected to call for repairs during the next two months. Major repairs will be carried out at the former British naval dockyard, now turned to commercial use under the management of a British shipbuilding fir •.
Infant Burned.—A three-year-old boy, David Anderson, the son of Mrs J. Anderson of 230 Ham road, last night suffered burns to his stomach w’hen he came in contact wdh a small drum which had been used earlier for burning rubbish. He was admitted to Burwood Hospital where his condition last night was satisfactory.
