Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, January 14, Two South Vietnamese police, convicted of beating a Viet Cong suspect to death, were given suspended prison sentences today. The two policemen, from Phuoc Tuy Province, were convicted of killing Tran Van Phep during an interrogation. The prosecution said the policemen, identified as Nguyen Van Giau and Nguyen Van Ut, took Phep’s body into the countryside, fired a bullet into it and then reported he had been killed trying to escape.
