J. S. Wearn Dominates Charteris Bay Regatta

The Christchurch club Olympic Finn helmsman, J. S. Wearn, sailing his boat Jolifin, dominated most of the racing at the annual Charteris Bay regatta held over the week-end. In his class, which had the largest representation, he finished up with three firsts and a second placing on elapsed time—quite a feat for one man in class racing at a two-day regatta. Wearn, who is a fit, determined and capable yachtsman, can now look forward to more than reasonable success at the New Zealand Finn class championships to be held at Charteris Bay in midFebruary. There were many good and many encouraging performances at this regatta which augurs well for the future of yachting in the province. The weather was mainly on the lightish side which suited

many after the hard weather over the last three months. Moths Eclipsed The Zephyr class, which is mainly established at the Charteris Bay and Mount Pleasant clubs, completely eclipsed the Moth class over the courses and the best Zephyr was some three minutes faster than the best Moth on both afternoons. One yachtsman who always performs well Is M. B. Poore, of Charteris Bay, who sails his immaculately turned-out 18footer with skill and speed. Casino, the recent trials winner, was again on top n the Junior Cherub class and won the Douglas Cox Cup on Sunday morning in fine style. Jn the afternoon Casino also won the championsihip and it appeared that Collingwood and Beere were too experienced for Sinclair and Cotter,

The Christchurch club juniors, Smith and Collingwood, dominated the P class while Typhoon had one of its best outings to win the Pegasus Crest.
