RACING Earl Of Foxwood Wins At Avondale

(Aew Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Auckland gelding, Earl of Foxwood, showed marked improvement on his previous form when he won the John Mells Handicap, the main event and first leg of the T.A.B. double at Avondale, easily on Sautrday.

Well back in the early running, Earl Of Foxwood took the lead starting the last furlong. Nothing had a chance afterwards and he won by two lengths and a half from Pretty Lucky. Gevser Land was half a head back, third, the same distance in front of the favourite, Red Crest, which was a trifle late getting clear. The second leg, the Flying Handicap, was won by the Matamata mare, Greymoon, which finished strongly along the fence to beat the littlefancied Nassella by threequarters of a length. The double, Earl Of Foxwood and Greymoon, paid £174 18s 6d for £l. The racing was held in fine weather on a fast track. Results:—
