Cool Costume For Warm Job

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. Clad in a glittering gown and cape of gold lame, Miss Terri Hughes, a 21-year-old Surfers* Paradise meter maid, swept into Auckland International Airport on Saturday night. But the best was to come. Only 10 lucky people got their first look at Miss Hughes’ very, very brief bikini in the privacy of the airport’s V.I.P. lounge.

Miss Hughes is in New Zealand for a week to work as a meter maid in Rotorua. While she is there a Rotorua meter maid, Miss Ngahuia Gordon, will take over her job at Surfers’ Paradise. The exchange was organised by the Surfers’ Paradise Progressive Association and the Rotorua Retailers’ Association. Miss Gordon welcomed the bikini-clad Miss Hughes at the airport. “You’ll find it pretty hot

walking around Surfers’ in your Maori costume,” said Miss Hughes to Miss Gordon. “It can get pretty cold walking around Rotorua,” replied Miss Gordon eying the bikini. Miss Hughes, a qualified nurse, became a meter maid during a holiday to Surfers’ Paradise. She has been putting sixpences in expired parking meters for about seven months. Miss Gordon left for Surfers’ Paradise today.
