FAR-EAST DUTY

Preparations By Otago (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. The frigate Otago will sail early tomorrow morning for exercises in the Hauraki gulf before she leaves for a tour of duty on the Far-east station.

The Otago will sail next month for Pearl Harbour for exercises with the United States’ fleet before relieving her sister ship, Taranaki, in the East. For the last week the Otago has made extensive trials of engines and equipment ready for the exercises and duty overseas.

The frigate returned to port on Saturday for mechanical adjustments.
