N.Z. Fifth On Refugee List

Last year New Zealand was one of the five major receiving countries for the World Council of Churches-assisted refugees and migrants. Migrants from more than 30 countries were helped by the World Council last year to settle in 21 countries. The largest number (6358) went to Australia. The United States took 2039, Canada 268, Brazil 155, and New ealand 152. More than half the migrants who came to New Zealand were Europeans from Hong Kong (85) and there were 19 Chinese from Hong Kong. Nineteen refugees came from Greece, 15 from Egypt, six from Italy, four from Belgium, two from France and two from Germany.
