Copper Shares Back Slightly (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Jan. 16. Industrial shares on Australian stock exchanges last week over-all held their levels, but key stocks were variable and some lost ground. Trading was quiet to inactive for most of the period but increased towards the end. The feature of the week was the stronger demand for minings, particularly copper producers which were marked up sharply. However, most issues closed the week below their best point. Leaders Ease The Sydney all-ordinaries index gained very slightly and Melbourne leaders was down about half a point in the week to Thursday. There was little change in the sections of the Sydney »ndex—most fractionally higher. Rises for the week included C.R.A. up Is 3d to 43s 3d; Mount Lyell Mining up 4d to 13s 3d; falls included 8.H.P., down 7d to 48s 8d; G. J. Coles down 3d to 13s lid; 1.C.1.A.N.Z. down 9d to 425; Myer Emporium down Is to 32s 3d; North Broken Hill down 6d to 37s 9d and Broken Hill South down 3d to 28s. New listings for the week include Pridhan Holdings, Ltd., processors of animal byproducts, which opened at 9s, and MacQuarie Holdings, Ltd., operators of broadcasting stations, which opened at 7s 6d.
Fishing Gear Taken.—Fishing gear, which included lines, reels, hooks, flies, and spinners valued at £2O, was stolen on Wednesday from a car parked in a parking area in Worcester street. The theft occurred between 7.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.
