St. Albans On Top
The hard-working K. I. Ferries made deep inroads into Lancaster Park’s batting in the morning, with only M. L. Randle, a fluent left-hander, making much progress. S. C. Guillen helped the St. Albans advance with two fine catches. But after lunch Lancaster Park recovered well, R. T. Dowker contributing a solid 57 and R. E. Gearry, in his first senior match, making a very good impression. Gdarry played some magnificent strokes, and displayed a family penchant for getting on with the game. This cousin of the Canterbury Brabin tournament player, R. M. Gearry, should make his mark in Christchurch cricket. St. Albans started well against the medium-pace bowling, but was slowed by the spinners. J. W. Burtt, however, gave a delightful display, with clean, crisp strokes and he has put his side in a good position. The umpires are Messrs J. W. Streeter and L. C. Johnston.
