Liverpool Held To Draw By Albion
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. Mighty Liverpool, leaders of the first division in the English Football League, must fear West Bromwich Albion most of all their op* ponents. Liverpool has beaten Albion only once in a League match in the last four seasons, and on Saturday W’est Bromwich held on for a 2-2 draw on the Merseyside club’s own ground. Albion made a great start, and was two up in 14 minutes with goals from the outsideright A. Brown, and J. Kaye. Then a 46,680 crowd saw Liverpool storm back into the game like champions. The right-half, G. Milne, scored and then the left-back, G. Byrne, rocked a 20-yard shot into the Albion net. In spite of tremendous efforts by both teams, there was no score in the second half. Liverpool dropped a point, but its nearest challengers, Burnley, had a shock 2-1 defeat away to Sheffield United after a goal-less first half on an icy-rock-hard pitch. Burnley is now three points behind Liverpool, but have a game in hand. Wintry weather again hit the League soccer programme and a total of 13 names had to be posted in England and Scotland. The leadership of the second division changed hands when Huddersfield went down 2-1 at Wolverhampton. The point that Manchester City gained from their goal-less draw with Preston North End sent them to the top, one point ahead of Huddersfield. Wolves are in third place. Police Move In Celtic’s run of 24 games without defeat ended in its Scottish first division match at Aberdeen on Saturday where it went down 3-1. Police had to move in when scuffling broke out among the crowd after Aberdeen’s second goal, and several supporters were taken away. Results: ENGLISH LEAGUE
