RESCUED IN RIP
Middle Aged Couple (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 16. About 300 people watched as surf life-savers rushed to rescue a middle-aged couple swept out to sea from Karekare beach this afternoon. Mr and Mrs C. B. Davies, of Mission Bay, were swimming together when they were swept off their feet by a strong rip and carried into a deep hole. Two lines and two paddleboards were used by Karekare Surf Life-saving Club members who battled a strong rip and heavy surf for 350 yards to save Mr and Mrs Davies. Mrs Davies was taken to the clubhouse suffering from shock, but was able to go home after treatment.
