Six Grass Fires
A workshop at 61 Acacia avenue was slightly damaged by fire on Saturday. The occupier of the property is Mr James Blackie. One machine from Sockburn and one from headquarters answered the call, which was received at 10.1 a.m. Gorse and scrub on Marine parade, near Shackleton street, were burned by fire on Saturday. No other damage was done. Two machines from New Brighton answered the call, which was received at 6.1 p.m. A small grass fire on Saturday at 49 Halset street, a property occupied by Mr Reginald Ruell, was extinguished by two machines from New Brighton and one from Woolston. The call was received at 6.57 p.m. Two machines from Woolston went to a small grass fire on the side of Major Hornbrook road, near the top end, at 8.42 p.m. A small grass fire on the side of Cunningham terrace, Lyttelton, about 8.42 p.m. on Saturday, did no other damage. Two machines from the Lyttelton brigade attended it. The brigade was called on Sunday to a small grass and scrub fire on Marine parade foreshore, near Shackleton street, about 1.9 p.m. on Sunday. Two machines from New Brighton extinguished the fire.
About 20ft of hedge and some grass at the Spreydon Domain were burnt yesterday. One machine from Sydenham and one from headquarters answered the call, which was received at 6.43 p.m.
