Morris Francis Meets General Gilbert Again

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTI I. Much interest will centre around the third meeting in a space of eight days between Morris Francis and General Gilbert in the main race, the Arthur Houston Handicap, the first leg of the double on the second day of the Reefton Jockey Club's meeting today.

Morris Francis then won easily over a similar distance at Hokitika two days later. General Gilbert, however, was not a starter there and on the first day of tne Reefton meeting on Wednesday General Gilbert finisned a neck in front of Morris Francis but the placings were reversed following interference in the straight. For bis latest success Morris Francis has gone up seven pounds in the weights and General Gilbert will carry two pounds more. The distance tomorrow is 70 yards shorter so it points like the pair finishing very close together again. These two appear likely to share favouritism but neither can be regarded as a certainty. Totara Lad, Vivien Robe, Wester and Dark Seaman are very capable gallopers.

So Lovely won by two lengths over similar distance on Wednesday and a rise of five pounds should not prevent her playing a prominent part in the second leg of the double, the Rahu Hack Handicap. However, she will not have things all her own way with such promising gallopers in the field as Silver Princess, El Beka, Red Treasure and Mission Girl. The weather is fine and the track should be firm. The weather is fine and the track should be firm.
