Gandhi’s Grandson At M.R.A. Conference
More than 70 New Zealanders and delegates from 16 other nations joined 200 Australians in welcoming Mr R.ajmohan Gandhi, grandson of, Mahatma Gandhi and editor-in-chief of Bombay’s weekly news magazine “Himmat” to Moral Re-Armament’s “Canberra 66 Conference.” This was Mr Gandhi’s first visit to Australia. In a traditional Maori welcome, Mr Gandhi accepted a sprig of leaves from Mr Tokoroa Waikato, of Huntly. A herald call from Mrs M. Tekawa, of Auckland, then rang out: “Haere mai te manuhiri tuarangi” (Welcome to our visitor from overseas) and 18 Maoris performed the action song of welcome, “Haere Mai,” as Mr Gandhi mounted the steps of Burton Hall at the Australian National University. Mr Gandhi then addressed the conference.
