RECRUITING DRIVE
Army Seeks 500 CV.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. New Zealand’s intensified role in South-east Asia will cause the Army next week to begin a new drive for regular recruits. The Adjutant-General (Brigadier A. H. Andrews) said today that the number of men required was indicative of New Zealand’s extended commitments. The Army’s present strength was 800 less than the Regular Force establishment of 6250, he said. Further gaps would occur in Army ranks throughout the year as soldiers completed service. Recruits who enlisted by June might serve overseas in Malaysia by December with the Ist Battalion.
