Tour Bowlers Get Hiding
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NEWCASTLE. Fresh from its crushing test win over Australia, the M.C.C. was roughly handled by lowly opposition at Newcastle yesterday.
A New South Wales country districts team hit 334 in its first innings at the start of a three-day match, and then captured two M.C.C. wickets for 20 by close of play.
Charlie Baker, a 28-year-old electrician, scored an aggressive 101 in 2hr 56min, including nine fours, after three wickets had gone down for 38 A left-hander, Mick Hill, who missed his century by two runs, helped Baker add 194 in 170 minutes for the fourth wicket.
The opener, E. W. Russell, failed to score when the M.C.C. batted, and the fast bowler, D. F. Brown, sent in as night-watchman, was also out for nought
