Prospective Candidate

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, January 14. Mrs Sonya M. L. Davies, aged 41, of Nelson, is a prospective parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party. Her name has gone forward for selection as a Labour Party candidate in several constituencies. The results of selection are not expected until the end of the month. Mrs Davies is a member of the national executive of the Labour Party. She has served on the Nelson Hospital Board for nine years and is now in her second term on the Nelson City Council. She has been secretary of the Nelson Labour Party Representation Committee for 10 years and is a member of the N.Z.B.C. advisory committee for the Nelson-Marlborough region. Maori welfare work has claimed her attention and she was chairman of the provincial committee of the Maori Education Foundation. She founded and is now president of the National Association of Child Care Centres.
