ANTARCTIC TRAVERSE

300 Miles To Go

Ten scientists, led by Dr. E. E. Picciotto, of the University of Brussels, are 300 miles from the end of the second stage of a zig-zag, 5000-mile traverse across Queen Maud Land from the South Pole to the Roi Baudouin Belgian base. The party was delayed in starting on this year’s stage from the Pole of Inaccessibility, where repairs were made to equipment left by last year’s first-stage party. This is now making direct for the terminus of this year’s stage, Plateau Station, and is due to be picked up there on February 1 and flown back to McMurdo Station.
