REBATE FOR BELTS
Safety belts are expected to get their biggest boost in Britain with the announcement that an insurance broker will rebate 12} per cent for motorists who install them. The scheme will be run in conjunction with a major safety belt manufacturer. This firm will include application forms with every seat-belt pack it sells.
Other attractions in the scheme are a no-claim bonus reaching 50 per cent after four years, and higher benefits for personal accident and medical expenses. People who fitted safety belts had been shown by experience to be “responsible motorists,” a spokesman for the broker said. The lower
claims for personal injuries made by motorists who fitted belts in their cars justified a cut in the premium. It would not be necessary to prove that the belts were used by the occupants of the vehicle to gain the concession.
