TROTTING Queensway Picked For Washdyke Win
Queensway and Chief Command might be the successful combination for the on-course double at Washdyke tomorrow. T he double, on the second day of the Timaru Trotting Club’s summer meeting, will be on the Tekapo Handicaps.
Queensway will try to improve on a sequence of minor placings, and if Chief Com- j mand succeeds in the second leg he will keep ; a winning record at the meeting intact. Last Saturday Queensway ran among the sprinters in the Taiko Handicap. She drew ] the second line and was | bothered when trying toi dodge breaking rivals in the] first few strides. Those early checks cost her valuable] ground and even on the home ; turn she appeared hopelessly! placed. Her solid finish for] fourth was meritorious. Tomorrow, Queensway will run two miles and, from a; handy position on the front] mark, should be capable ofj keeping out of trouble. Viewin, an impressive winner over a mile and threequarters on the first day of the meeting, could be one of the hardest for Queensway to beat if she is reserved for the meeting. She is also engaged at Hutt Park. There will also be a solid backing for Admire, Goldwater and Void. Admire was narrowly beaten by Adorato in last Saturday’s sprint. Goldwater was a laststart winner at Winton, and ''Void, also successful at Win- . ton. ran soundly from 36 yards to finish third in the Second 'Levels Handicap on the first 'day of the meeting. | Chief Command improved on a sequence of seconds when ] he gained a clear win in the first division of the Fairlie Handicap on the first day of the meeting. Tomorrow, he has drawn the second line at the start, but if he dodges bother early his natural brilliance should carry him into a challenging position. R. Young handled Chief Command last week. This time he will be driven by the stable reinsman, P. Yeatman in the Tekapo Handicap, a race confined to probationary drivers. Chief Command will have
plenty of rivals with sound runs on their records. Among the last start winners are False Play and the Templeton stablemates, Bobby Dazzler and Star Globe.
Compromise and Either Way both won at their start before last and Southern Son won well at Ashburton three starts ago. Warily, Singing Lad and Winning Song, were minor place-getters on the first day if the meeting. The T.A.B. double will be run on the South Canterbury and Winchester Handicaps. Indecision, Bright Highland and Moutere Bay should be the most popular fancies in the first leg. Doug's Choice might be the second-leg favourite, but may get strong opposition from Powerful Light and Flying Over. The weather in South Canterbury during the week has been mainly fine. The track! should again be firm and fast. I
