HYDRO LAKE WEED
£3OOO Grant For Research (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 13. Auckland University’s Botany Department has been granted £3OOO by the Government to solve the weed problem in the North Island's hydro lakes. Recently the university accepted a Marine Department contract for the Botany Department to study the lagarosiphon problem in the Rotorua lakes. The latest grant will finance a Ph.D and’M.Sc. student for two years’ work on the floating weed ceratophyllun. A field laboratory will be established at Ohakuri, the centre of the infestation. The head of the Botany Department,,. Professor V. J. Chapman, will be in charge of both weed projects.
