(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SAIGON, January 13. .The United States Army has decided to send its first battalion of tanks into the war in Vietnam, informed military sources said yesterday, the “New York Times” news service reported. With 72 tanks, the battalion would become the largest concentration of armour in Vietnam and, according to sources, it is likely the unit would see action on the firm, rolling plains of the central highlands. The sources said the tank designated for use in South Vietnam is the M-48, considered by the Army as a “medium” tank. It is equipped with a 90-millimetre main gun and a .30 and a .50 calibre machine-gun.
