Mr Shastri’s Legacy-
Sir, —At the time India started as a democracy, with a non-alignment policy, 1 read an article predicting that China, not wishing the democracy to be a success, would adopt an aggressive policy towards India. The aim of this policy was to make India spend - her revenue on armaments instead of spending it on productive enterprises to relieve the extreme poverty of the country, in the hope that the people would '.urn to Communism as an alterative. To judge by subsequent events, there seems to have been some truth in the prediction.—Yours, etc., E. R. January 12, 1966.
