< Cover charges in French restaurants have been abolished by a government decree. I The charge is being banned after complaints that tne price of a restaurant meal can often be 25 per cent or more above that stated on the menu.
Restaurant owners can increase their food prices 10 per cent to make up for the loss of the cover charge, but there must be no increase in 'the prices of drink.
