TROTTING Indecision Strong Washdyke Fancy
The meeting between the last start winners, Indecision, Bright Highland and Moutere Bay, in the South Canterbury Handicap should be one of the features of the racing at Washdyke on Saturday.
Anyone of these three could be the popular fancy for the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the Timaru Trotting Club’s summer meeting.
But if records all-round are taken into account, perhaps, Indecision, which has proved himself versatile over all distances, will have the distinction of being out-right favourite.
Already this season Indecision has won twice as a sprinter. His record also includes two middle-distance victories and one at two miles. On Saturday Indecision will be going two miles, the same [ distance as the Waimate Cup in which he took the honours : last month. Newcomer
Bright Highland, like Indecision, will be having her first
start at the meeting. She rounded off a sequence of seconds with a well-deserved win in the Mobile Stakes, 13 furlongs, at Addington Raceway last Monday week. At her previous start she had chased Flight Adios home over a solidly run two miles in the ißangiora Cup. Moutere Bay will be trying to come through the meeting with an unbeaten record. On the first day he impressively won the John Hole Memorial Handicap. That was his third victory this season. Few of the others could be recommended on form. Perhaps, the best chance among those on the limit will be Marino Maid, a two-mile winner at Westport last month, and Don Caesar, Mile End and Mitcham, which are not altogether consistent but have shown the odd patch of good form. Landlord, the back-marker on 24 yards, would also be rated a chance. This Otagotrained gelding, a proven twomiler, has been shaping like an early improver in the last week or two.
Doug’s Choice, which brought his record to three wins from four starts for the season when he led all the way over two miles in the Kerrytown Handicap on the first day of the meeting, will probably dominate betting in the Winchester Handicap, second leg of the main double. Form Runners
Powerful Light and Flying Over are two of several form runners with which Doug's Choice will have to contend.
Powerful Light was a strong finisher for second and Flying Over was third behind Moutere Bay in the John Hole Memorial on the first day of the meeting. All things being equal they should again beat Waltz Away which was battling fourth after receiving the run of the race in the first leg last week. On the other hand Legendary and Pop's Donation could be likely improvers. They had sound form leading up to the John Hole Memorial but luck of the running went right against them both in that race. Epona and Friendly Tom, which will be making their appearance at the meeting, are, like Doug’s Choice, both last start winners.
Friendly Tom regained his best form with a sprint victory at Addington Racewaylast Monday week. Epona was successful at Greymouth the following night. She had also won at Westport at her previous start.
