Better Quality WOOL Firm At Wanganui
(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI. January 12. At the third main Wanganui sale today, the market was firm on recent Wellington sales for the small offering of hogget wools, good average style fleece, and for well-prepared lambs’ wool. Prices for average fleeces and second shear were a shade easier, particularly for heavy conditioned lots.
A catalogue of 28.112 bales was submitted to a full bench of buyers. The offering con- ' prised approximately 50 per cent fleece wools. 20 per cent early shorn and second shear. 15 per cent lambs’, and the balance oddments. Although some lines showed cotting and discolouration as the result of unfavourable weather, the wool opened up in generally good condition. However, there (was a small proportion of itender staple in the offering ■of lambs’ wool. A much higher percentage of lots had been picked for stain, with a consequent better showing in colour.
Competition was fairly general, but the Continent dominated the buying. Range of Prices The range of prices is as follows:
