Quads Weigh More; Quins Now Laughing
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. January 12. As the weight of the quadruplets born at the National Women's Hospital on December 20 to Mr and Mrs H. D. Rawson, of Nelson, increases, the weight of concern for their progress is decreasing.
The latest weight measurements taken in the premature unit at the hospital showed that three of the I babies all passed three and a half pounds and i the fourth was just beI low that mark. I The weights are, in order I of birth: — John, 31b Boz. Anne, 31b 13oz. Mary, 31b 14oz. Peter, 31b 7oz. •Their progress continues to be satisfactory,” a hospital spokesman said, “and at present no individual baby is causing particular worry. ‘They will stay in incubators for a long time yet to obtain benefit from a fairly uniform environment. The babies are still tube feeding and are being rested as much [as possible. No date has yet been fixed I for the departure of the quad- ' ruplets from hospital. j When the Lawson quintul plets left the National (Women’s Hospital, Samuel and (Deborah weighed nearly 81b,
Lisa weight 61b Boz and the lightest was Selina at 61b.
Naw five and a half months: old their weights, last Monday, were;— Samuel, 141 b 12oz. Lisa, 121 b 7oz. Deborah, 131 b 15oz. Shirlene, 131 b 6oz. Selina, 111 b 4oz. Their mother, Mrs S. W. Lawson, said today that the babies were not sitting up yet but they were taking a lot of notice of what was going on around them, they were laughing and making their own talking sounds. The quintuplets were putting on more than average weight each week and a great advance had been the reduction of solid meals to three a day. “That is very good for babies of that age, especially for premature babies, but they are eating so well they don’t need any more,” Mr Lawson said.
