PROBLEM SOLVED

Barfoot Not To Swim (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Having withdrawn from a premier swimming carnival at New Plymouth on Saturday and theratened with suspension if he swam at the Auckland television carnival, the Auckland butterfly swimmer, K. Barfoot, has solved the problem by not competing at all this week-end. The New Plymouth carnival, in which Barfoot was down to swim in the 110yds and 220yds freestyle, is one of three being held to give the Empire Games training squad competition. The secretary of the New Zealand Swimming Association, Mr E. Williams, threatened Barfoot with possible suspension if he competed in Auckland and also warned the Auckland centre that it could face suspension if he ;was allowed to swim.

Last night Barfoot, who had been chosen to swim in the local carnival, said he had withdrawn because of personal reasons.
