Attack On Smuggling
(.V Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MANILA, January 12. President Ferdinand Marcos. of the Philippines, is “seriously considering'' the arrest and detention of anyone caught smoking contraband cigarettes. The same will apply to anyone found using other smuggled commodities. The President's press secretary, Mr Jose Aspiras, said the law provides that such
persons can be fined up to £5OO or gaoled for up to four years and two months. The plan is the latest move being considered by President Marcos in what is considered to be the most intensive campaign against smuggling carried out in the Philippines. The picture above shows the President taking the oath of office as the Philippines’ sixth President. Behind him is his wife, Imelda.
