ATTEMPTED RAPE
Police Question Liner’s Crew (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 12. Auckland detecitves today interviewed more than 200 members of the crew of the Rangitoto ir. their hunt for a man who attempted to rape a woman aboard the liner early this morning. The victim was a single woman, aged 28, a member of the crew. She suffered facial bruising during the attack and was admitted to Auckland Hospital, where her condition tonight was satisfactory. Seven detectives assisted by six uniformed police from the wharf station were aboard tire Rangitoto at 6 a.m. to start the inter-views.
Navy divers were called in during the afternoon to search the harbour bottom at Freyberg wharf for any weapon or clothing which may have been used by the attacker. The police inquiries are under the supervision of Detective Chief Inspector W. T. Cook.
