The commission began its local review on September 28, but adjourned pending a court hearing to test its powers to fix hotel standards in Dunedin. However, the application for a writ of certiorari alleging that the commission had no power to do this was withdrawn after the commission had agreed to a rehearing. The coming review will cover hotels in Christchurch city, the Riecarton and Lyttelton boroughs, and the counties of Waimairi, Malvern, Paparua, Heathcote, Mt. Herbert, Akaroa, Wairewa, Tawera, Ellesmere, Halswell. and Ashburton outside the Ashburton Licensing Trust’s area.
